Biking

The Mt. Chase and surrounding area has endless opportunities for whatever style biking you enjoy. The existing network of ATV trails are perfect for mountain biking. While the trails aren’t yet designated as multi-use, they are seldom used by ATVs, leaving hundreds of miles of trails to explore.

Katahdin Woods and Waters has started to develop multi-use trails with never before seen views of Mt. Katahdin. Their Loop Road is a 17 mile rough dirt road with multiple vistas and picnic areas.

Baxter State Park is great for biking as well. The park does not allow bikes on their hiking trails, but the perimeter road is great of mountain bikes, hybrids and cycle cross bikes. You can stop in at their many campgrounds for a refreshing swim in cold mountain water.

The Katahdin area also has plenty of back country roads great for road biking.   You can bike the Katahdin Woods & Waters Scenic Byway that runs on back roads from Millinocket up to Matagamon. Or take a drive over to Houlton and bike the world’s largest three-dimensional scale model of the solar system. The full educational adventure would be a 40 mile ride from Pluto (in Houlton) to the Sun (in Presque Isle).
