Our Lodge Loop is a great little ski/snowshoe trail that leaves right from the front door of the lodge. This trail has been a work in progress over the past few years and this is the year that we were able to get out there right away and harden up the base before getting hit with too much snow. Our beginner skiers that were here this weekend said the conditions were great right from our front door. While it’s not a long trail, it’s still enjoyable to get out! The lodge loop has been broken out for only ½ of it. We are hoping to open up the 2nd half of the loop this week allowing for a 1 mile ski around the lodge. The Upper Stump Dump trail is a new trail that we added last summer. This trail is great for snowshoeing, but not recommended for skiing as there are a few spots where we do not yet have bridges.
With the base of snow that we currently have, we expect decent ski conditions at KWW National Monument, though we are unsure if grooming operations have started there. We will try to keep updates as the winter progresses.
Penobscot River Trails has also opened their trails, but have not yet started grooming. Things are still a little too thin in the woods. They are not yet renting ski gear, but trails are open if you have your own gear.
